Coming to Converse was a wonderful experience because I have never been surrounded by so many insanely talented musical women in both the staff and the students. This is not to say that I have not ever been around female musicians; it's just that there are so many women around me that just help to create this calm atmosphere where we all have a chance to have a voice in class.
The majority of the choirs that I have been in had, like many other choirs in the world, primarily been made up of girls with only a few boys. In my senior year, we probably had the most mixed choir regarding men and women, which may have been because the choir was small. We only had about fifteen or sixteen people in the class and about nine of us were girls. This was definitely a good thing for us since we needed a nice full blend of voices and our only issue was really being able to hear some of the second sopranos. The guys in my class were, for the most part, able to carry their weight vocally, however, the girls in that second soprano section were just really quiet. I am very thankful that we did not have any problems in that class regarding gender; we all just felt like a family to each other.
I also didn't come from a particularly musical family, so I completely understand. Also, the video was absolutely amazing! She's so talented! Honestly, your completely right about Converse. I'm amazed every day to be surrounded by the musicians that I am. Their musical experiences have helped me to better myself.

I also felt the same! I have hardly seen women in the musical field not at least in India. In Converse, I have seen a large number of music majors playing so many instruments and also very talented in singing.
ReplyDeleteI love that you got to experience a mixed class ! Our choir was made up of mostly girls and like six boys I bet you guys sounded beautiful! Also, I'm glad you pointed out the whole guitar thing. I have never have thought of a guitar being a "boy" instrument but Usually it is a male playing the guitar.
ReplyDeleteI love the video! She is so talented, thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the fact that I also did not come from a musical family. I’m not ashamed of it at all, in a certain way I’m happy about it because I was able to naturally find this appreciation to music. In terms of guitar teachers, I had a very similar event in which my teachers were always males. I also remember my senior year when I attended All-State Guitar, the majority of musicians were males. I’m also glad that Converse allows us as females to have a voice because we aren’t intimidated by the possible criticism of a male. I really enjoyed reading your post and the video was very lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat funny was really amazing. At my high school, we had female and male for music teachers
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were able to have such a strong female role model come into your life! My dad tried to teach me guitar in fourth grade, but I didn't understand the theory behind it. Thankfully I was able to take in in college and take modern band, which was a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteOK, in the first place, I had no idea that you played the guitar. Do it more now! (Are you aware that we actually do have a classical guitar teacher? He's not teaching anyone at Converse at the moment, but he does exist. Also, you can sign up for lessons through Lawson, which has an awesome guitar program.) Second, Martina! I'm acquainted with her work through Dr. Mr., who's in a flute-guitar duo with a different guitarist. She's a real force of nature.
ReplyDeleteOoops. Marina got autocorrected to Martina. Alas...
